In French, the interrogative word est-ce que is very used and can be difficult to use for non-native speakers. However there are some rules to know about it:
It is a word used in direct questions which means that the person you are asking something is directly concerned about the question.
Est-ce que tu as compris ce que je viens de dire?

It is important to remember that there is no subject-verb inversion when we use “est-ce que”.
Est-ce que ça sera tout?

When the question is about location, time, object, est-ce que is preceded by the words : où, quand, qui?
Quand est-ce que tu veux venir?
Où est-ce que tu veux aller ?
